Hello Everyone, and Welcome to 2026! A New Year brings with it a kind of natural fresh canvas, ready to be painted with your thoughts, some dreams and maybe some aspirations. The New Year just kind of leads us in that direction in the first few weeks of 2026. As we step into this chapter in your big book of life, let’s embrace the opportunity to transform our passions into a journey. Let’s dive into this New Year with enthusiasm and a vision for what we can achieve.
Reflect on the Past Year…
Before we start to set sail into the future, it’s important to acknowledge ourselves by reflecting on the past year. Let’s take a moment to celebrate your achievements, whether big or small. Small wins count big! Did you learn a new skill, overcome a challenge, or make a positive impact in or on someone’s life including your own? Did you go to work on a day or days you didn’t want to? Did you sit on your porch just to take 5 minutes to regroup when you haven’t done that before? Did you go to your room to have some quiet time? Did you chose not to argue back to decrease a conflict? Did you choose to listen to what was being said instead of arguing?
Write down the Reflection…
Reflecting on these moments can provide a solid foundation for growth because the things we do are worth celebrating. I truly am a big believer of that. If you’d like to pause here and make a list of 10 things that you have done over the 2025 year, you can do that right now. Take out your magnifying glass if needed to look for your wins, you have them. Set the timer for 7 minutes, go! Your reflections will help set the tone for the year ahead. Don’t get distracted, come back to this post!
Set Intentional Goals for 2026…
Setting goals is more than just making a list at times; it’s about aligning them with your true passions and values. WHAT YOU WANT not what you should want or what others might tell you to want or focus on. Start by crafting some ideas or things you might want to do or a goal you have. Whether it’s learning how to draw, volunteering for a cause you care about, taking the facilitator training for SMART Recovery @ https://smartrecovery.org/become-a-smart-recovery-facilitator even the training at the Center for Motivation and Change, for the Invitation to Change Approach @ https://cmcffc.org/trainings-hub/certification, build a bird house, building a dog house, paint your garage, help your friend rearrange a room. Having these ideas and thoughts ensure your goals resonate with what truly matters to you, yes you. This alignment will fuel your motivation and drive you throughout the rest of the year because this is something that matters to you.
Cultivate a Positive Mindset…
A positive mindset is a super powerful tool that can transform challenges into opportunities. Begin each day with affirmations even just 3, that reinforce your belief in yourself and your goals. Practice gratitude by acknowledging the good in your life, and surround yourself with people and influences that uplift you whenever possible. No, you do not have to write the affirmations down if you feel like that is a chore. Instead just say them to yourself. Keep this simple. Positivity is contagious, and by nurturing it within yourself, you can inspire yourself. Think, filling up your own cup with positivity!
Leverage Your Unique Skills and Experiences…
Each of us possesses unique skills and experiences that can be used to make a difference for others. Yes, we all have them. Take time to identify your strengths and consider how they can be applied to your goals. Perhaps you have a knack for storytelling, a talent for organizing, or a passion for teaching. Use these gifts to create anything meaningful to you, like launching a creative project, or initiating a community event, helping a friend with organizing, read to children at the Library, be a Family & Friends Facilitator. Maybe host a letter writing night, once a month. Offer to cook dinner for your friend or host a movie night at their house if your friend feels they can not leave their own house for what ever reason. Organize a once a month Zoom dinner with Family or Friends for the next 3 months. The list goes on and on. Do and commit to only what feels nice and right for you. If you do not like it after trying it a few times then stop doing it.
Cassandra Tip: You know, it is still considered a win, even if you decide to stop doing what ever you wanted to try. That just means you tried something and realized you don’t like it! And you changed your mind. That is so excellent you tried something new!
Connection Helps…
Connect and Collaborate with Like-Minded Individuals, why? Because that helps build a supportive network for yourself. It is helpful for both personal and professional growth when you do that. Seek out communities, online, offline or both, where you can connect with individuals who share similar goals and interests. See what you like. Test the waters. What feels more comfortable to you? Attend events, join forums, and engage in meaningful conversations. That could mean joining a Painting Class for 4 weeks. Taking a one day building class at ‘Home Depot’. There are free book clubs at the library and some free one night Book Review nights at some ‘Barnes and Nobles’ locations. Remember, collaboration often leads to innovation, and by meeting or working together, we can achieve more than we ever could alone.
Positive Jumper Cables…
This blog post is designed to inspire and motivate you! Like a pair of jumper cables! To help flow some life and positive energy in you. Not make you feel bad. But to lift you up, not sink you down. DO what feels easiest to start.
Cassandra Tip: Remember 3 steps or less when needed especially if you are trying something new. Please remember you are freaking amazing even on days you don’t think so. I invite you to take a positive and enthusiastic outlook for the New Year ahead.
Here is a special note: Supporting our Loved Ones with Substance Use Disorder during 2026…
As we embark on the New Year, it’s important to recognize the role we play in supporting our loved ones, especially those facing challenges such as substance use disorder or behaviors of concern. Yes, we are helpers in many different area’s. The journey to recovery is not one that needs to be walked alone by you or your Loved One. Rock Bottom is not something that needs to be reached to then start to engage with your Loved One, no. Rock Bottom for some can mean death. The Rock Bottom mindset can mess with our own goals of connection. I am a firm believer of that. As a family member or friend, your support can be a beacon of light, hope and strength. Think like how a lighthouse shines it’s light. That is us! We are lighthouses.
You might ask.. Well how do I start that Cassandra? Start by fostering open and compassionate communication. Let your loved one know that you are there to listen without judgment and that their journey is important to you. Remember Recovery or figuring out Recovery is not a ‘one size fit all’ idea or road. Encourage them to set small, achievable goals that align with their recovery regardless if it is not what you want for your loved one at this time. Celebrate each milestone, no matter how small or tiny.
Remember the Cassandra tip: 3 steps or less. Even the tiniest steps get us around the block. Your encouragement can make a super, significant difference in their motivation, resilience and belief in themselves.
Additionally, educate yourself about substance use disorder to better understand the challenges your loved one faces. This knowledge will help empower you to provide informed support and connect with them. Also the resources you learn about can aid in their recovery when they are wiling to accept it. Go here to my blog posts https://tappingnow.com/blog/ for ideas and resources, also to https://smartrecovery.org/ and https://cmcffc.org/ to help assist with your positivity and belief in their ability to overcome their Behaviors of Concern. Which can be seriously powerful motivators for ourselves and our loved ones.
By applying the principles of reflection, intentional goal-setting, and a positive mindset, you can create a supportive environment that fosters love, understanding, healing and growth. Think: Change Your Story, Change Your Life. Together, let’s make 2026 a year of new idea’s and hopes, not just for ourselves, but for those we care about. The path to success is paved in a thought, an idea, our hopes, persistence and positivity.
“A goal is not always meant to be reached, it often serves simply as something to aim at.”
~ Bruce Lee
